I am a Canadian artist...
Working in oils, creating bold and large scale landscapes, florals and abstract art
Thank you for visiting my works. I am primarily a self taught artist…and will undoubtedly be a life long student, learning my craft. I first picked up a paintbrush in 2008…but the experience itself changed me. My hands were meant to make things…and for years before that I was and am an avid gardener. I've always loved to garden…even when I knew not what to do in a garden…I loved the feel of digging in the dirt, transplanting and creating arrangements within a flower bed. What is it that calls a person to do this is part of the greater mystery…but seeing the flowers bloom after a summer rain and the soft petal against a rock wall is too, an art form. I liken these two practices and have found along the way that many artists do a combined practice. Our hands tell the tale.
Painting begins with observing…so I may have taken a long while to take in the sights and finally decided to express my appreciation. When I am painting I do a few warm up brushstrokes…I get a feel of what is going to be created that day. My intuition is strong in general and I can often tell after I begin in the morning with just a few brushstrokes if there is something magical about to happen. And some-days it won’t be. I try to lean into that. Some of my paintings I will often say just painted themselves…I’m just there, holding the brush…its like a dance, and sometimes I do dance as I paint…its all just getting out of my own way and letting creativity come through me. I know the technical skills but my opinion is that you have to be more in touch with “feeling” the painting rather than thinking it into fruition.
My paintings were first noticed by a gallery in Ottawa that began carrying my work in about 2013. Since that time, I focused more on all matters of art…..and practising my craft to hone and fine tune my works.
I hope you have enjoyed my page. If you would like to know of any upcoming shows, please sign the page below to get email notification.
